Sunday 6th May 2007

One of those rare days, often experienced at the beginning of summer seasons, with multiple items of interest. The day's undisputed star visitor was the Best Air Airbus A.321 TC-TUB which flew a delayed Onur Air Bodrum departure during the early afternoon, the first-visiting aeroplane wearing the full colour-scheme of new Sri Lankan carrier Mihin Lanka. flyGlobespan also began their Toronto/Hamilton service today, the first rotation being flown by the carrier's first Boeing 757 G-CEJM which had visited briefly on a crew training sortie on 9th April, also slightly late this afternoon, making its first appearance here with the recently applied tail logo publicising Liverpool/John Lennon Airport, while the based Thomsonfly Boeing 737-300 became G-THOO in the early hours, the ex-easyJet aeroplane which had last appeared here as G-EZYK in March 2004, becoming the first 737-300 to visit Newcastle Airport fitted with winglets, only days after the first similarly-fitted 757 !. Cimber Air used their 'new' CRJ OY-RJE for their late afternoon Copenhagen schedule, the obviously ex-Lufthansa aircraft having last visited here as D-ACLD on 5th October 2005, but the day's highlight for me was the otherwise rather bland first-timing Citation XLS HB-VNY during the morning .... my 9,000th executive jet !.
