Saturday 31st December
Rather fittingly the last day of the year produced one more first-visiting airliner, a Ryanair Boeing 737-800, EI-DCP operating the morning Dublin rotation. No fewer than sixty-six members of the fleet first-visited Newcastle Airport during 2005 !. Happy 2006 to you all .....

Friday 30th December
Possibly the last first-visiting airliner of the year was provided by Jet2, Boeing 737-300 G-CELH positioning in from Leeds to operate the afternoon/evening Cork rotation after delays caused by the morning snow/ice. Ryanair also chipped in however, Boeing 737-800 EI-DHJ making its second visit on the evening Dublin schedule.

Another example of the airliner type of 2005 at Newcastle Airport first-visited, Ryanair Boeing 737-800 EI-CSV operating the evening Torp flight - the carrier in no small way helped to more than double the number of -800s to visit during the year compared with 2004. Air Taxi Citation 550 F-GNCP which had first-visited during October, made its second appearance here during the afternoon.

More diversions, with a pair of executive jets diverting in from Durham/Tees Valley during the morning, NetJets Europe Citation Excel CS-DFP making only its fourth appearance here, while the much more interesting Challenger 604 N604LA arrived mid-morning from Liverpool for a night-stop. A planned NetJets Europe movement later in the day saw Citation XLS CS-DXD arrive for a night-stop during the afternoon, only the machine's second visit.

More airliners, with a first-visitor, and also no less than three making just their second appearances here. Two of these were Ryanair Boeing 737-800s, yesterday's first-timing EI-DHZ on the morning Dublin schedule and EI-DCG on the evening Dublin rotation, while the Axis Airways Boeing 737-300 F-GIXG which operated a charter flight on December 17th, flew the return portion just after sunset. The first-visitor was a diversion from Doncaster, easyJet Swiss Airbus A.319 HB-JZO arriving from Geneva during the evening, to where it positioned out to after an hour on the ground here.

Probably a more interesting Boxing Day than most in our history, at least thanks to a pair of airliners during the late evening, Ryanair's very new Boeing 737-800 EI-DHZ first-visiting on the Dublin schedule, while easyJet Airbus A.319 G-EZIO made its second visit here on an 'in reverse' Stansted rotation - it had first visited during August.

Friday 23rd December
A superb airliner day with plenty worth mentioning - the only first-visitors were Ryanair Boeing 737-800s however, EI-DHJ first-timing on the morning Dublin schedule while EI-DCG followed on a similar routing during the late evening. The early hours had produced the first-visit this year of Air Europa's machine EC-IDT on an extra Tenerife charter rotation, while My Travel Airways 'subbed' Euro Atlantic Airways L.1011 Tristar CS-TEB for their afternoon Tenerife departure - the aircraft's fourth appearance here, it had last visited on a 'sub' for Airtours during September 2002, while it had earlier appeared on substitutions for Transjet Sweden and Air Azores. CityJet BAe146-200 EI-CSK made its first visit of the year on the afternoon Brit Air Paris-CDG schedule, while My Travel Airways Airbus A.320 C-GTDK arrived late in the evening, its first appearance here since 27th October 2002.

A much more interesting day with a first-visiting airliner and two first-timing executive jets. We had to wait some time for the airliner, Hapag-Lloyd Boeing 737-800 D-AHFY operating the late evening HLX Hannover schdedule, while the new biz arrived during the morning, Execujet Scandinavia Learjet 60 OY-LGI spending a few hours with us, while NetJets Europe Beechjet 400 CS-DMC made a shorter visit just before mid-day, only the third of the fleet to appear here.

Interesting GA visitor was Jet Ranger OE-XBA which arrived from Humberside during the afternoon for a night-stop, and Voyageur Airlines DHC.8-300 C-FEYG arrived on a west-bound ferry flight, the machine also night-stopping, still wearing its 'UN' livery - it had passed through east-bound on 25th September. Thursday 8th December
Another of those big biz days, although again it involved now quite familiar machines again also, obviously not co-incidentally, visiting together. The early morning saw exec airliner Douglas MD-87 N143G arrive direct from the USA for a two-hour stay, the aircraft having appeared here previously during the early December of two of the last three years, on 6th December 2002 and 4th December 2003. A pair of Challenger arrivals a little later in the morning involved 604 N818TH on its third visit here, and 300 EC-JEG also on the airframe's third visit, both having last visited on the same day recently, on 19th October 2005, while another Bombardier product first-visited as such during the afternoon, Global Express N838SC staying for just a couple of hours before departing across the Atlantic. Interestingly the machine had visited previously as N711LS on 4th December 2003, the same day as the last visit from MD-87 N143G !. Manhattan Air Premier G-VONJ followed up its first visit just yesterday, with its second during the afternoon.
Airliners were confined to a pair of Boeing 737-800s, Ryanair machine EI-DHM second-visiting on the morning Dublin schedule, while KLM's PH-BXN made its third appearance here on the first Amsterdam rotation of the day.

Uncannily both machines had first-visited on the same day, 17th May 2004, the Premier wearing the identity N50586 back then. Just a few more exec jets to mention, the most interesting being Global Express F-GVML which visited briefly mid-afternoon - it had been one of the machines which flew training approaches a few years ago, overshooting on 21st April 2002 as G-52-25. Citation Excel G-CIEL made its third visit also during the afternoon, and MAS Airways Citation 550 G-DWJM which had first-visited as such the previous day, departed at lunch-time, returning for another visit during the late evening.

Tuesday 8th November
Interest shifted back to executive jets as is often the case at this time of year, although the day's first aeroplane of note was the Transavia Boeing 737-800 PH-HZM on the first Amsterdam rotation of the day, an aircraft which had visited once before on 15th October 2003, but which now wears the full new KLM colour-scheme. Biz jet arrivals during the afternoon got going with the first-visit as such of MAS Airways Citation II G-DWJM, the aircraft being no stranger to Newcastle Airport however, having visited on many occasions as G-BJIR, the last time on 11th January this year, while three machines all made their fourth landings here later in the afternoon, Citationjet G-CJAD, Gulfstream V N16NK, and Gestair Falcon 2000 EC-GNK, the latter two night-stopping. As with the Gulfstream IV N80AT which was still present, GV N16NK had also last visited during November 2004, arriving for a double-night stop on 9th November 2004.

A number of airliners of interest with a pair of first-visitors, Ryanair Boeing 737-800 EI-DHC on the afternoon Bergamo schedule, and easyJet Airbus A.319 G-EZSM on a morning 'in reverse' Stansted substitution. The beginning of a winter charter series that might have been expected to produce a first-timer did not however, SATA-Air Azores' Funchal series, flown by Airbus A.320s this season, being set going by CS-TKJ, the carrier's only 'second-hand' machine which had visited previously as C-FTDA of My Travel Airways, the last time on 24th September 2002. GA visitors included Cessna 441 D-ILYS on a day-stop, CitationJet G-CJAD at breakfast-time, only the machine's third landing here, and Cessna 182 N1320S which arrived mid-afternoon for a night-stop.

The first Friday of the winter season produced a number of airliners of note, two of this winter's charter series getting going with aircraft of note, the mid-day Futura Tenerife charter being flown by the first-visiting Boeing 737-800 EC-JFB, while new operator British Jet began their Malta series during the mid-morning with Hello AG Douglas MD-90 HB-JIB wearing the Maltese-based carrier's colour-scheme. The aircraft had actually visited before this year, on a Lourdes charter on 3rd April, while it had provided us with the first-visit of this much more regular type here in recent weeks, as TC-KTB on 2nd May 1997. Ryanair began the switch-over to Boeing 737-800 equipment on their Dublin schedule, the morning rotation being flown by EI-DCZ, its fourth appearance here, while one of their old 737-200 aircraft appeared here for the first time in its new guise a little later, European Air Charter's G-FIGP arriving from Stansted for a night-stop. Wearing a suitably modified Formula 1-style colour-scheme, it had last appeared here as EI-CJI on 25th January, while it had once been very regular here as G-BMDF of Dan Air.

A more interesting day with freight charters again providing the most interest. An early morning exec jet visit on such a flight produced just the second appearance here of CitationJet D-IPCS, the machine having visited during last October, while Farnair Europe Fokker F-27 HA-FAE operated a flight from Tours during the evening, the aircraft subsequently night-stopping. Interestingly it had visited previously as a Farnair Europe aeroplane but wearing a different registration, the aircraft flying three night's worth of Stansted mail flights for BAC Express as HB-IVQ during November 2002. It had also visited once previous as G-BVZW of Channel Express way back on 16th March 1996. The day's other highlight was Challenger 604 N3HB which arrived from Farnborough at tea-time for a double night-stop - a first-visiting aircraft, the registration had actually been seen here on two previous airframes, on an earlier model Challenger in 1996, and a Learjet 55 way back in 1988 !.

A rare sub-charter by one of our based charter carriers produced Euro Atlantic Airways' rather un-inspiring, all-white, ex-SAS, Boeing 767-300 CS-TLO operating the delayed return leg during the afternoon of Britannia Airways' Arrecife rotation from yesterday evening. NetJets Europe Citation XLS CS-DFU made only the type's third visit during the evening, the aircraft which had first-visited the upgraded Excel last December subsequently night-stopping, while Cessna 425 N90YA visited during the afternoon, a machine which had first-visited during April.

The second day of the new Ryanair Torp schedule failed to produce another first-visitor, the flight rather ironically providing us with a second-visitor instead, Boeing 737-800 EI-CSG having just first-visited seventeen days previous on the Bergamo schedule. Executive jets provided more interest however, new UK-based Citation 750 N750GF making its first appearance here during the morning, while a pair of NetJets Europe Citations were Bravo CS-DHD during the morning on its fourth visit, and Excel CS-DNY during the evening for a night-stop, only its third appearance here.

Tuesday 27th September
Ryanair commenced their new Torp scheduled service during the late afternoon, the flight hopefully opening up a new source for further first-visiting Boeing 737-800s in the coming months - the first flight duly produced the first-timing EI-DAX. Another first-visiting 'NextGen' was Transavia's -700 PH-XRD which flew the afternoon KLM Amsterdam scheduled service. A pair of visiting CitationJets during the afternoon were N498YY and N511TC, the former making its third visit here, the latter its second, while we got another look at a Eurocopter EC.225 during the morning, Bristow's G-ZZSA following last month's first-visit-of-type G-ZZSB, the machine passing through to the Duxford show.

Sunday 25th September
A day to remember, an exciting 'Dash Duo' passing through at lunch-time, a pair of Voyageur Airlines machines en-route for United Nations work. As with the previous machine, DHC.8-300 C-GHQZ during April, the two wore all-white colour-schemes with UN titles. DHC.8-300 C-FEYG arrived first, followed by DHC.7 C-GFOF, surprisingly our first of type since 1999. Two recent first-visiting airliners made just their second appearances, Onur Air Airbus A.300-600 TC-OAO on the evening Dalaman charter which had first-visited just a week ago, and bmi Airbus A.321 G-MIDM on the afternoon Kefallinia 'W', which ahd first-timed last month. Excel Airways used Islandsflug Boeing 737-400 TF-ELD for some of the day's flying, the aircraft making its first visit since May 2004, and wearing a basic Blueline colour-scheme.
GA visitors also provided interest, German Air Rescue King Air 200 D-IDRF operating an ambulance flight from Palma during the late afternoon, while yesterday's first-visiting as such Citation II N80LA returned during the evening, and last weeks's first-visit as such Citation V HB-VNW made its second appearance mid-morning. Saturday 24th September
An excellent day with interest from various genres - the summer Saturday still provides substantial Spanish charter excitement even so late in the season, the two of the day's flights that have produced first-visitors regularly during the summer, providing two more, Spanair Airbus A.320 EC-IOH on the day's two Palma/Gerona arrivals, only the second of the 'Star Alliance'-liveried fleet to appear here this year, and Air Europa Boeing 737-800 EC-JBL on their afternoon Palma rotation. Much earlier, easyJet Airbus A.319 G-EZIM had made its second landing here in the early hours, on its return on the Geneva schedule, positioning straight out back to Stansted, while Futura Boeing 737-800 EI-DJU had made only its second visit as such on a slightly delayed Tenerife charter from Friday evening.
A trio of Citations were of note, Augusta Air Excel D-CWWW making its fifth appearance here during the afternoon, while a pair of Citation IIs were more un-common, VP-CJR from/to Manchester, its first visit since 1999, and N80LA which visited late afternoon from Coventry to Le Bourget. It had appeared here before as HB-VKS on 27th December 1994. Finally Piper Cherokee N45CD visited during the evening from Staverton to Edinburgh.

A much more interesting day, one of the day's two first-visiting airliners appearing in the early hours, Air Malta Airbus A.319 9H-AEL operating the delayed Thursday evening Malta rotation. The rest of the excitement occurred at the other end of the day, Futura Boeing 737-800 EC-JDU making just its second visit on the late evening Tenerife charter, while more unexpected was SAS Douglas MD.81 LN-RMM which diverted in with an engine problem en-route from Dublin to Copenhagen during the evening. The passengers were 'rescued', rather co-incidentally, by the MD.81 that had made a similar diversion on 22nd January 2004, SE-DIS arriving from/departing to Copenhagen during the last hour of the day. Ducair Learjet 35 LX-LAR first-visited as such, arriving during the evening for a night-stop - the aircraft had last visited as HB-VJL durign March 1999.

One of the airport's biggest days ever, for obvious reasons, and with an incredible seven first-visiting airliners, although for the enthusiast it was probably the airport's regular scheduled operations that produced the real interest. Extra departures to Cardiff during the morning mainly produced aircraft from UK charter carriers, although surprisingly that didn't mean there weren't first-visitors, Monarch Airlines Airbus A.321 G-OZBH and First Choice Airways Boeing 757 G-OOBJ both making their first appearances here. Eastern Airways SAAB 2000 G-CDKA made just its third landing here on another Cardiff charter, while German carrier Aeroflight also flew two departures, with the Airbus A.321 D-ARFA that had visited three times as such previously during March, and similar type D-ARFB which had visited before only as an Aero-Lloyd machine, as D-ALAM during September 2002. The carrier also co-incidentally flew a Verona charter during the afternoon with the Airbus A.320 D-ARFE that had first-visited on a Lourdes charter on 27th March 2005.
Scheduled services produced an amazing five first-visiting airliners however, beginning with an extra easyJet Bristol schedule laid on for the football, Airbus A.319 G-EZMH positioning in from Stansted during the morning - the aircraft subsequently returned from Cardiff during the evening, and then returned to Stansted on another extra schedule. We were also treat to a surprising CRJ.200 substitution from Brit Air, F-GRJO operating the late morning Paris-CDG rotation, and another by EUJet, Airlinair ATR.42 F-GPYB operating the late afternoon Manston schedule, while yet more German airliners of note appeared in the shape of the first-visiting Germania Fokker 100 D-AGPJ on the first half of the day's Hannover/Munich 'W', and Hapag-Lloyd Boeing 737-800 D-AHLQ on the second !.

Attention shifted away from jet airliners again with another nice delivery flight, Voyageur Airways DHC.8-300 C-GHQZ passing through during the afternoon en-route to UN work in Africa. Having been delivered through Newcastle on no fewer than two previous occasions, as OE-LLY with Tyrolean Airways in 1994 and 2001, the aircraft wore an all-white colour-scheme with UN markings/titles. Falcon 900 EC-IVE of Air Executive day-stopped, while airliner interest was provided by just the second landing here of Brit Air CRJ.700 F-GRZC during the late morning, and the fourth appearance of Transavia Boeing 737-800 PH-HZD during the afternoon, the aircraft substituting on another KLM Amsterdam scheduled service.

Something to mention before we get to the day's first-visiting Boeing 737-800s !! ..... one of the year's most exotic ferry machines passed through during the afternoon, Beech 1900D ZS-OOV en-route to its new owners Cato Air in Mauritius. Wearing the carrier's very smart full colour-scheme, the registration 3B-VIP was visible under the stickered South African identity. The first appearance of an Astraeus Boeing 757 at Newcastle Airport occurred during the early afternoon, G-OOOB departing with Newcastle United to Lisbon - the ex Air 2000/First Choice Airways machine had last visited here on 26th March 2004, while the day's two first-visiting 737s include a real 'stormer', the more expected Ryanair machine EI-CSZ on the afternoon Bergamo schedule, and the Hapag-Lloyd 737-800w D-ATUI on the lunch-time Cologne schedule, a certain person's last HLF 737-800 !.

Sunday 3rd April
While the day produced two first-visiting airliners, the most significant airliner visitor was, rather surprisingly, not one of them - our first Douglas MD-90 since 2000 operated the return sector of last week's Lourdes charter, Hello's HB-JIB rather incredibly being the airframe that first-visited the type back in 1997 in the form of KTHY's TC-KTB. One of only three of type to ever land at Newcastle Airport, the aircraft arrived during the late afternoon and night-stopped. The first visitors were rather more expected, another Brit Air CRJ.700, F-GRZB operating the afternoon and evening Paris-CDG arrivals after a CityJet BAe146 had flown the late morning rotation, and another Ryanir Boeing 737-800, EI-CSW on the afternoon Bergamo schedule.
